Happy Birthday!

GIL OROZCO is truly one of Roller Derby’s unsung heros.
Early in his career, Orozco was one of the best jammers out there, speedy and agile, always
on the move, making it look rather easy. But when he got on Charlie O’Connell’s Bay
Bombers in the early 60s, his role in the sport changed and he embraced this assignment
with enthusiasm and excitement. Gilbert was the guy working behind the scenes, making
sure all was ready for the game before fans arrived, then doing his job efficiently and quietly
in the pack, controlling the pace, making opponents work hard to keep stride with his lead,
and he made it all look pretty effortless. His contribution to the sport, to making the
experience winning for fans and skaters, is one that’s appreciated and admired throughout
the skating world particularly by Mr. Roller Derby, Charlie O’, himself.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Gil Orozco and THANKS for giving so much to Roller Derby! May the
coming year be filled with much love and happiness.
