For Retired Skaters and Referees

Judy Sowinski and Skip Schoen are the OSDA Trainers for the Penn-Jersey She Devils and the Hooligans. We also have amateur teams in South Jersey, New York and Richmond, VA that go up as often as possible to train under these ex pros.
Our teams are to the point that they are itching to get on a track. OSDA is looking in Philadelphia and surrounding areas, possibly New Jersey and if necessary as far north as NY.
It’s important that we have it reasonably located so as many people as possible can access it.
We are always excited for ex-skaters to come share their knowledge with us…the She Devils/Hooligans have the luxury of being trained by Judy and Skip all the time, our other members can only go as they have the funds to travel. If another experienced skater were inthe area of an
OSDA team and willing to donate some know-how and encouragement, we’d all be better for it. Maybe you’d like to speak to Skip about donating some training hours to our NY league? He’s our OSDA Director of Training and Referee Certification. Maybe you would be interested in being a referee?
And of course…money…so if you are not in a position to bid on our little piece of history, you might know someone who can’t live without it and pass along the word…
Mostly, what would help us immensely is the continued support and acceptance of the professional skaters who we want to emulate. It gets
frustrating sometimes…our message of bringing back professional legitimate co-ed banked track Roller Derby isn’t always received with a positive reaction from the “modern” flat-track movement or the skaters from the past. When skaters like yourself take the time to see
what we are sincerely trying to do and give us a “:thumbs up”, we are thrilled and encouraged ever so much!
So help us out by:
1) Learning about the Old School Derby Association and be aware of our goals and aspirations.
2) If you like what we’re doing, your kind comments and moral support can help keep us motivated
and encouraged when the “trashers” are about.
3) Continue to be open and share your experience, ideas, feelings and advise with us…we hope to be there someday, but you have already been there, and we respect that and last but not least:
4) Don’t get mad at us when we want to try to do something a little different than the way you think it should be done. We would NEVER intentionally try to take anything away from a skater who has gone before us, but we have to acknowledge that these days are not “those days”, and not everything that has been done or tried int he past has been successful. So please don’t take offense…we need all the friends and support we can get!
If you’d like to take a closer look at what we are doing, get with Skip and come to a training session…bring your skates if you like…we do PACE LINES!
Respectfully
Rose Colombo
