Roller Derby Girl Scout Day – July 17th

A special day for local Girl Scouts was wonderfully organized by Clobberella and featured beginner, intermediate and advanced level training for the Girl Scouts that saw them learning how to stop, cross over, weave through cones, T-stops, and backwards skating.

The game started at 8pm and featured the Dishonor Roll taking on the Sadistic Sweethearts. Throughout the game, the skaters kept the Girl Scouts involved and engaged.
It was obvious that the Girl Scouts thoroughly enjoyed the action and Penn Jersey would be smart to invite them back.

The star jammer of the game was Dishonor Roll’s Hellanor Rollsevelt who scored 20 of her team’s 39 points. Even so, the Sweethearts once again proved their dominance and defeated Dishonor Roll by a score of 48-39, leading the entire game.

High scorer for the winning Sweethearts was their star jammer – Sloppy Jo who scored 14 points, but right on her tail was rookie Angry Topaz who scored 13 points. Also scoring for the Sweethearts was the always feisty and volatile Shampain with 8 points, excellent rookies Maulin’ Munster with 7 points and Felony Melanie with 6 points.

In addition to Dishonor Roll’s Hellanor Rollsevelt, additional points were put up by co-captain Classy Chassis who is a multi-talented pivot/blocker/jammer with 8 points, the always productive jammer Roxanne Mudd with 5 points and rookies Honeybee, Kelly Kapowski and Little Debbie Smacks with 2 points each.

It should be noted that both star jammers – Hellanor Rollsevelt and Sloppy Jo threw in several excellent sidesteps that had their opposing blockers skating right off the track. Both of them are very fast and exciting jammers who raise the level of excitement in every game.

Dishonor Roll’s co-captain, Deuces Wild, was a strong defensive presence throughout the game throwing several text book shoulder blocks that leveled her opponents. The always popular Lucky Luciano, co-captain of the Sweethearts was a defensive machine. Lucky knows how to skate the track and where to throw her blocks, taking full advantage of the turns where a skater is easily taken out of bounds.

In one of the final jams of the game, three Sweethearts were in the penalty box (note – I believe that only two should be in the penalty box at one time and when the first penalty expires, the third penalized skater goes right to the box) but Dishonor Roll, who had all 5 skaters on the track could not take advantage because Shampain was wearing the pivot helmet and wouldn’t let a single Dishonor Roll out of the pack. It is smart defensive skating like this that wins game.

The next home game is on September 18th. Always check for any updates to the schedule at: http://pennjerseyrollerderby.com/schedule/schedule.html
