Is Gay Marriage Ethical or Unethical
Is it true that humans are born gay Monroe Kintzel stated in a daily news article, ???Gays are made and not born??? (Bible clear on marriage and sin, 2007).? How can one fool oneself of thinking that God made a mistake and created a male that should be female or created a female that should be a male How is it possible for a man to carry an infant in the womb for nine months and then give birth Where will the child be born naturally from How can two males reproduce with the same sex organ How can two females reproduce with the same sex organs There is no way humanly possible. Utilitarian theory states, the greatest good for the greatest number. Virtue ethics theory looks a person??™s character. Is gay marriage ethical or unethical That is the question.
Marriage is the state of being married; relation between husband and wife. (Websters dictionary.) Looking at the Virtue ethical theory, ???Virtue ethics, thus, seeks to determine not what makes an act good but what makes a person virtuous??? (Mosser, K., 2010). This would be one way of solving the gay marriage issues. Looking at a person??™s character and judging that character through the word of God may be one of the best ways. The Holy Bible states in the book of Genesis, let us make man in our image??¦., ???So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them,: ???And God blessed them and God said unto them, ???Be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth??? (Holy Bible, Genesis 1:26-28, NKJV, 1988). These verses clearly say that God created male and female to reproduce physically.
To add more to that, more examples in Genesis says, ???And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone: I will make him a help meet: ??¦God made woman and brought her unto the man: And Adam said, ???this is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman because she was taken out of man: Man leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife and they were both naked, the man and his wife were not ashamed??? (Holy Bible, Genesis 2:18-24.NKJV, 1988). Judging the character by the word of God is saying a man should be attracted and intimate with a woman. Nowhere did this word say, ???man and his husband or woman and her wife be joined together and become one flesh.??? ???This is a divine institution, the condition of the propagation of the race.” (Genesis 1:27, 28 King James Version.) This, gay people cannot do??? (Bible clear on marriage and sin. 2007).
Let??™s not forget the penalty of Sodom and Gomorrah in the book of Genesis 19:1-29. In this example, God was displeased with these cities. He sent two of His angels to destroy them because of same sex being sexually intimate with each other. Men want to force themselves to sleep with the male angels that were in Lot??™s (Abraham??™s seed and the only just man between the two of those cities) house. Lot offered his daughters but the men wanted the male angels to be intimate with (Holy Bible, paraphrased paragraph). Genesis verse 19:24 says, ???The Lord rained upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstones and fire from the Lord out of heaven and He (the Lord God) overthrew those cites and all the plain and all the inhabitants of the cities (Holy Bible, NKJV, 1988). This penalty was the destruction of old and young men of all who participated in same sex relations. This is a prime example of judging character and the results of the decision one??™s character represents, which is the Virtue ethics theory.
Virtue ethics could resolve this by living according to the word of God and judging your own character; searching the scriptures to see what God requires of us in relationships. Same sex intimate relations are an abomination in the eye sight of God. Judging the character; in anal sex, the sperm goes into the buttocks and there are no eggs to fertilize. Two females having oral sex and using devices as an imitational penis will not produce sperm to fertilize their eggs. Looking at this process as a whole; no one has to tell you that same sex in marriage having sex is out of order and unethical.
On the contrast, there is the relativism ethical theory. ???Rather than insisting that there are more absolutes, moral claims must be interpreted in terms of how they reflect a person??™s view point; moral claims are then said to be ???right in a given culture??? or ???wrong for a given society??? (Mosser, K., 2010).? ???Relativism is the idea that one??™s belief and values are understood in the terms of one??™s society, culture, or even one??™s own individual values??? (Mosser, K., 2010). This theory is stating that no one is wrong according to one??™s belief. It is saying for gay marriage that everyone should be treated equal and there are no rules. This theory would look at the word of God and say, ???God loves all people and gives each individual the free will right to make their own decisions.???
One would say the gay communities have a right to make their own decisions. It is very unethical to be prejudice of one??™s choosing to be with another person of the same sex gender. The American Journal of public health states?????¦is that ones sexual orientation usually is invisible to others. For instance, if someone has a lesbian colleague but doesnt know the colleagues orientation, an innocent question-such as asking her if she has a boyfriend, rather than asking “Are you seeing someone special”-implies a judgment regarding what is “normal.”??¦.This interplay of power and prejudice, whether overt or covert, constitutes the phenomenon of heterosexism??? (Buffie, W. C., M.D. 2011). ???This sexual-minority status, as explained by Riggle and Rostosky, is defined by a culture of devaluation, including overt and subtle prejudice and discrimination??¦. lesbians, gays, bi-sexual and transgender individuals, stigmatized by negative societal attitudes directed at the essence of their being, struggle on a daily basis to balance the dual dangers of publicly engaging their need for equality and validation and remaining closeted to find some calm through an escape from public scrutiny. Many gay persons internalize such discrimination and prejudice??? (Buffie, W. C., M.D. 2011). One may feel that one??™s personal business is one??™s personal business and it??™s not fair to be viewed as different. Gays are human beings who have feelings too. They believe they know when their in love and have a right to choose the mate of their choice without discrimination.
Research shows that some gays are offended by the term, ???same sex marriage???. They should be considered as socially equal. A humanist says, ???As humanists, we should stop saying “gay marriage” and “same-sex marriage” and call it what it really is; marriage: We know that homosexuality is neither a disease nor a disorder. We also know that there is no valid secular reason to discriminate against gay and lesbian individuals in the areas of family, marriage, employment, and all other forms of political or social equality. So stop saying it. Just stop saying “same-sex marriage.” Doing so brings up the religious connotations of an arbitrary and fictional hierarchy of gender and sexuality. The religious say that things are “sinful” and as humanists we dont concur – so why should we with this??? (Frye, J., 2011). Gay??™s believe they are not inferior to no one for the lifestyle they have chosen.
Many gays believe God should not be in the picture and one??™s decision has nothing to do with God or Bible-based scriptures. The humanist states???? After all, there are only a handful of biblical passages that can be construed as condemning homosexual behavior, ??¦.The arguments against a same- sex couples right to receive equal marriage all too often come from a Bible draped in a plastic, one-sided American flag. They entail such perennial gems as “Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve,” and “Love the sinner, hate the sin”??? (Frye, J., 2011). These scriptures shouldn??™t be brought up because everyone is created equal and view things differently.
In this same article the humanist believes that the Bible is old school news and doesn??™t count for today. ???In terms of intellectual currency, this God-in-absentia is no longer paying the bills. We no longer need a god for health and welfare, social order, or the maintenance of the laws of physics (and frankly, we never did). As with the God concept, statistically significant evidence for the efficacy of intercessory prayer is severely lacking (no God, no agency, no reason to continue paying attention). Weve moved on, no matter how interesting it may be to wax philosophical about Gods attributes. And so, fundamentally, the religious arguments against recognizing marriage between same-sex couples are not just bad arguments, theyre not our arguments, and they arent even worth our time???(Frye, J., 2011). Life goes on and gay??™s way of living is one??™s decision alone if one wants to get married.
I agree with the virtue ethical theory. Our book says, ???Virtue ethics, thus, seeks to determine not what makes an act good but what makes a person virtuous??? (Mosser, K., 2010). Also, I believe marriage should also be between men and women only. I am a strong believer of the word of God. I only am concerned about what God thinks. The Bible is one book that never goes out of style and many revelations come from this book of daily living instructions.
If same sex couples are to raise children, there is an unbalance in that situation. Children need both parents to help them be balanced emotionally. Girls need to be told by their father, ???I love you??? and boys need their mother to help them to be more sensitive to women needs. ???According to Jeffrey Satinover, M. D., a psychiatrist and member of the Department of Politics at Princeton University, ???there is no more important reason to prohibit same-sex marriage than the effects it would have on children. Exposure to both sexes is vitally important to the developmental needs of children because it helps them to form their sexual identity, but there are many more areas where children are affected by the parenting of a mother and father. Researcher Henry Biller, who has written several books on the subject, explains some of the key areas:”Even if the father and mother behave in generally similar ways, they provide contrasting images for the infant … Mothers and fathers have different verbal styles when communicating … Involved fathers are more likely to stimulate the infant to explore and investigate new objects whereas mothers tend to engage their infants in relatively pre-structured and predictable activities … The father and mother offer the child two different kinds of persons to learn about as well as providing separate sources of love and support. …” (Brinkman, S., 2004). Two men that are married cannot teach a girl how to be a lady. Two females that??™s married with a son, cannot teach a boy how to become a man.
I believe that same sex couples are sinning against their own bodies and tempting our Lord and Savior by putting their bodies in jeopardy of many diseases purposely such as HIV/aids, physical health risk and emotional/mental health risk. In the article, Gay marriage, who??™s minding the children, it states, ???As of 1998, 54 percent of all AIDS cases in America were homosexual men and according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) nearly 90 percent of these men acquired HIV through sexual activity with other men and even more alarming an estimated half of all new HIV infections in the United States are among people under 25: Among 13-to 24-year-olds, 52 percent of all AIDS cases reported among males in 1997 were among young men who have sex with men. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1998, June,? HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report? 10 (1)); the risk of anal cancer soars by 4000 percent among those who engage in anal intercourse.? (Brinkman, S., 2004). This is some of the results of this sin.
The Bible states, ???Do not tempt the Lord thy God??? (Nelson, T., 1988). Twenty-three punishable sins are listed with homosexuality leading the list in? Romans 1:26-31. Paul wrote,? ???For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones,? and likewise the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed in their passions for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error??? (Nelson, T., 1988, NET). These verses are clearly stating that one will open oneself up for the sickness for this sin against one??™s own body. It is right to say, that God is the judge.
I have no heaven or hell to put either of the ones engaging in same sex marriage. I don??™t believe God is pleased with such acts. Our God hates and judges sins. He is a Holy God. As it is stated in the above paragraph the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, God hated the act of homosexuality that the penalty for it was death. Don??™t get me wrong. Our righteous God, does love everyone he just does not condone wrongful acts. In the book Hebrews it says, “For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth” (Nelson, T., 1988, Hebrews 12:7, NKJV). Any parents that do not correct their child/children do not love them. Parents who love their children will make sure they are disciplined when they disobey and warn them of God??™s laws.
However, to call a joining together of two persons of the same sex a “marriage” is an abomination in the eyesight of God. In the Bible, marriage is a divinely ordered establishment designed to form a permanent union between one man and one woman for one purpose (in the midst of others) of procreating or reproducing the human races. Gods order is the first of such unions is found in Genesis 1:27-28; Genesis 2:24; and Matthew 19:5. If in God??™s original plan or creation had he created two persons of the same sex, there would not be any presence of the human race this day.
Is gay marriage ethical or unethical That is the question. It is safe to say that gay marriage is unethical. It goes against human nature. God does not make mistakes. Humans are not born gay; they choose to live that lifestyle. I believe to think and believe such a statement is a mental disorder. One is not in their right mind. Studying reproduction, even with animals, it takes a male and female to reproduce. It may have happen, but, I??™ve never seen another male dog go into another male dog. Dogs are whorish animals when it comes to female dogs. The idea, as a whole, of two persons of the same sex marrying is strange, unstable, ignorant and ridiculously unreasonable. Clergymen might bless homosexual marriages, but the Bible proves that God will not.
